What is ZOCALO?

If you've been doing the same job for a long time, you might forget what it was like when you started.

Why I chose the name ZOCALO as a brand name is still in my memory.

``The brand name is ZOCALO,'' he said, and I think we talked about it about 10,000 times, but I forget. So I decided to dig back into my memory a little.

``ZOCALO'', which is also the name of the jewelry brand, comes from the plaza in the center of the city where I was lounging at TAXCO in Mexico, where I learned the basics of jewelry design.

How to read “ZOCALO”

ZOCALO is the name of the square in the center of any city in Mexico. In Spanish, it is pronounced zocalo without a voiced sound.

The average American, who had won two wars in a row and didn't need the ability to learn any language other than American, would pronounce it ``Zocalo''.

Japanese people who have been educated in the Roman alphabet and have no connection to Mexico also read it as ``zocalo''.

I call it ``zocalo,'' but you can call it ``zocalo.''

"ZARA" is pronounced "Sara" in Spanish, but outside of Spanish-speaking countries it is mostly called "Zara".

I've probably been at ZARA's head office meeting several times, and I've definitely said, ``What should we do?'' ” We debated several times, but “ZARA’s trademark registration is LOGO. I'm sure I've reached a point where I think either is fine.

So "zocalo" or "zocalo" is fine.

How did the brand name “ZOCALO” come about?

I often get asked this question.

"ZOCALO"

1. “A place where people gather”
2. “Fundamentals/Foundation”
3. “Hidden cultural heritage”

I named it with three meanings.

1 “A place where people gather”

The first time I seriously studied jewelry making was in a town called TAXCO in Mexico.

In the center of every city in Mexico, there is a square called ``ZOCALO''.
Surrounded by churches, restaurants, and numerous shops, this square is always a fun place to gather.
Especially on weekend nights and Sundays when there is a church service, there are balloon vendors, cotton candy vendors, and toy vendors wandering around, making it even more fun.

It's fun to stay in a foreign land for a long time, but it's even more fun when you find a comfortable place.

Our desire is to create a place where people can gather and have fun.

2 “Fundamentals/Foundation”

Also, this ZOCALO is the Spanish word in Europe.

1. Skirting board (basic building material)
2. Pedestal
3. Basis

It has the meaning of

For both company name and brand name,
What has the meaning of “foundation/foundation” is
I think that's a very good thing.

3 “Hidden Cultural Heritage”

Some people may be confused by the name Spanish, but Central and South America, where Mexico is located, was once a colony of Spain.

Being a colony means that it was invaded, and before the invasion, the Maya-Aztec civilization was flourishing.

During the invasion, the center of the Mayan-Aztec village that was in the center of the town was destroyed and reclaimed, and a new town center called ZOCALO, along with a church, appeared there, and it remains what it is today.

Part of ZOCALO collapsed during the Mexico City earthquake in the 1970s, and ruins from the Aztec era were discovered.

It is a place full of history and culture.

It also has the meaning of digging up such ``buried cultural heritage'' and shining a light on it.

====================

"ZOCALO"

1. “A place where people gather”
2. “Fundamentals/Foundation”
3. “Hidden cultural heritage”

So far, it seems like it can be used in the same way as the meaning it contains.

I am grateful for the good fortune that came my way.
